Once the procedure has been completed, the patient will meet with the doctor to get a list of care instructions that will outline everything that can be expected over the next two months or so. Be sure to ask questions in regards to anything that is not clear. It is imperative that the patient understand every bit of what they must do in order to heal properly.

When the surgery is completed, the patient will have to wear a compression garment and must stay in that garment for the following two days. Be prepared to do little but lie around and rest as the garment must stay on at all times and cannot get wet for any reason. After the first two days, the patient can shower, but must then keep the garment on at all other times. When that period has passed, they can then take the garment off when they go to bed, but it must be worn during the day.

This garment is one of the major keys to the recovery process. Because the normal bond of the skin is separated (because of the fat removal) during the surgery, it needs time to create another bond. The compression garment enables this to happen without the appearance of sagging.

There will also be bruising in and around the area where the fat is taken from. It may look pretty bad at times, but this is normal and will eventually heal. Because of this, the area will also be extremely sore and rest is the best medicine. This procedure is very invasive and when the surgery is over, it shows.

Once the patient is home and resting, they may experience some leaking from the wounds of the surgery. Do not panic and think that something is wrong as it is nothing more than the fluids that were not sucked out during the liposuction. It should not be a heavy flow, but more like a seeping. Just keep the areas as dry as possible so that the garment is not damaged.

For the first few days after the surgery, the only thing that should be done is rest. While it is unlikely the patient will feel like doing anything else anyway, it is just better to be safe and heed the warning. Once the initial 48 hours passes, they can then get a shower, but the garment must be worn at all other times and they must take it easy. Light activity can be resumed after that period, but because the garment is still being worn, it is better to keep the heavy exercise back for just a bit longer. About two months after the surgery the patient can resume their normal routine.

When people first get home from the surgery and are able to take off the garment, they are usually shocked by the amount of bruising. The body hurts and it may seem like it will never get better, but recovery is far quicker than it would appear at that moment. The important thing after the surgery is to take it easy and allow the body to once again create the bond that it had. In just a short while, the bruises will be gone and slimmer body will be staring back in the mirror.

Types of Care With Liposuction Surgery Post Op

While tips are always great, final care may change from doctor to doctor. Realize that this is nothing more than the norm of what happens after a typical surgery. However, you can rest assured that these after liposuction surgery tips are pretty much the standard that just about every hospital uses for their liposuction patients.

Once the surgery has taken place, the patient will want to do little more than rest. Because the compression garment must be warn for two days straight, it is unlikely that they will do anything more than lie around. When that initial time frame has passed, the garment can be taken off to shower, but must be worn at all other times, including sleeping for the next 3 weeks or so. After that, it can be removed at bed time, but that is the only time. This goes on for another 3 weeks or so and then they can finally leave it off.

The compression garment is probably the most important thing in the recovery period. Because this procedure breaks the bond that is holding the skin to the nerves and bones, that bond must be resealed. The compression garment ensures that this will happen.

The entire area that has been treated will show some bruising. At times, this can be significant, but it perfectly normal. The muscles in this area are also going to be very sore, but that too will go away. Give the body some time to recover and everything will get back to normal in a couple of weeks.

After they get back home, they may see some leakage from the sutures where the doctors made the incision. Know that this is perfectly normal. Some of the fluids may have remained inside the body and they will leak out. When this happens, be sure to dab the spots dry as the compression garment must remain dry and clean at all times.

This probably goes without saying, but rest is also very important. The body has been through a very traumatic event and rest is very important to build back up strength. When strength starts to come back, some light activity can start, but nothing significant should be attempted until the compression garment is taken off.

One of the most disturbing things for most people is the bruising that they see and the lack of cohesion of the skin when they take off the garment for the first time. While it can be a little unnerving, it is normal and will eventually all go away if the recovery rules are followed. When that time passes, the only thing left is a new and improved you.

Care Should Be Patient After Liposuction Surgery

Upon leaving the hospital, the patient can expect to get a check list or some type of instruction from the doctor. In most cases, it will give a point by point list of what the patient can and cannot do over the next few weeks after the surgery. This is a quick rundown of what can be expected once the patient arrives back home.

Liposuction patients will be put into a compression garment after the surgery. Depending upon where the surgery was, they will have to remain in that garment for up to 2 days without removing it. After that, the garment will have to be worn at all times except when in the shower for about 3 weeks. Once that period has passed, the garment will only have to be worn during waking hours for another 3 weeks.

It is very important to follow the rules of wearing the garment. Because the surgery is removing the fat that is attaching the skin to the bones, it must be compressed so that sagging does not result. The first three weeks are the most critical to reinitiate the bonding process and after about a month and a half, the process should be completed.

When the patient gets home, they can expect to see bruising. This is normal and will be in the area in and around where all of the fat was removed from. These areas are also going to be very sore from the liposuction. It is extremely important to rest and allow the body to recover from this invasive procedure.

Depending upon the technique of the surgeon, there may be some leakage from the incisions after the patient returns home. This is because some of the fluids that are used during the procedure may not have been totally sucked out during the procedure. It may be a little messy or disgusting, but it is nothing to be alarmed about. It is however important that care is taken so that the compression garment remains clean and dry.

The patient should do little to nothing for the first few days after the surgery and then can proceed to walk around but must avoid any heavy activity at all costs for at least two weeks. Once the period has passed where they need to keep the compression suit on all the time, they can resume with some light exercise and can return to their normal routine when the suit is no longer needed.

Make no mistake about it, the body is going to need some time to heal after this procedure and the post op rules that are laid out by the doctor must be followed to a tee. Rest is imperative to allow the body to heal and to regain the cohesiveness that it had prior to the surgery. While it may not seem like it right after the surgery, your body will be as good as new in a few months and looking much leaner than before.
